Dual Diagnosis/ Co-Occurring Disorders
Dual Diagnosis treatment is defined as treating an individual that is diagnosed with one or more mental health disorder(s) such as depression, anxiety, or bipolar disorder, but they also meet the criteria for a substance use disorder, such as Alcohol Use Disorder.
According to recent data from the National Association of Mental Illness (NAMI), approximately 37 percent of individuals with alcoholism and 53 percent of individuals with drug addictions have at least one serious mental illness. Healthy client care should teach new skills for coping with all of the symptoms present.
